I'm a European. I can look back at 3000 Years of documented history. And at millenium of medival, without scientific progression, but instead they burned witches.
Also christianity was used to legitimate kings, wars and so on. Thank god for Kant.
Shit like Jesus makes me Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaage!
Just to play devil's (ha!) advocate, didn't the church PRESERVE scientific knowledge through the dark ages? Aristotle, for one, would have been totally lost without monks. Also, what units are you using on the Y axis? :P
...besides which, the dark ages may not have existed in the first place: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantom_time_hypothesis
The problem with religion causing trouble with scientific advancement is only going to get worse really, not better. Technology continues to improve as the teachings of a more than 2000 year old religion continue to get more and more dated.
seen this graph before, its awesome. Totally agree with you man, humans have got to a point where we no longer need religion, and we just need to learn to let go of our superstitions.
Eh. Our past is unchangeable. I mean, we gotta learn what's important to do and not do from it, but it's already done. And our past as humanity was pretty pathetic.
But we have telecommunications and just science in general, so we don't really have a reason to suck so much now. Some of us still suck and I don't know why, but whatever. There's booze for that.
Haha sorry to hear you raging, though I agree the dark ages were detrimental to human development, and I myself am an atheist, what you hear of us learning nothing during them is seriously exaggerated.
For one, the Muslims in the middle east were making huge contributions in the world of engineering, architecture and mathematics.
Jesus looked like a skinny Zach Galifianakis.
